Science Workshop In Barpeta

On 1st August 2013 at around 1 pm our Regional Administrative Officer, Shri Kamalakant Baliarsingha sir rang me and informed that in Barpeta one science workshop had been arranged on 3rd August and I need to take the initiative for the same. I was very much delighted with the news but on the other hand I was deeply worried too, regarding the less time left  for the workshop day. In the evening Priyanka didi  of Vivekananda Kendra narrated everything to me, regarding the time and venue of the workshop. She also made me under stood that this was the part of Sardha Sati  Samaroh, and only the students of Sankardev Vidya Niketan would remain present.

Next day shri Suvan Sett Sir Administrative coordinator, told me the name of the teacher who would help me in conducting the workshop in Barpeta.

On 3rd August 2013 I started for Barpeta at 6.30am, I was accompanied by Bandana Kalita  Ast. Teacher VKV-Suklai.  Barpeta is 90km from Guwahati so by bus it takes around 3hrs. When we reached Sankardev vidya niketan, we found all were waiting eagerly for us. Shri Gunajit Kalita, Pradhan Acharya(principal) of the school gave us a warm welcome. Sankardev vidya niketan is situated at Galia Hati in Barpeta. The school has a student strength of 1150 and teaching staff 60. The school has classes upto class X and has 10 science teachers to teach science.

We started the workshop at around 10.30am and continued up till 1.30pm. During the period 23 experiments / activities were demonstrated. Pradhan Acharya selected class IX for the workshop. Class IX of the school has a strength of 60, but on workshop day some of the students remained absent. Six science teachers who are taking higher classes remained along with us during the workshop.

Students were found to be completely involved when workshop was going on. As the students number  was more so all the activities/experiments they were not able to perform of their own, but some they did and while finding out the result of those activities/experiments the joy and happiness was reflected in their face. Out of 23 experiments some are as follows:

@ Conduction of electricity through Potato

@ Conduction of electricity through lemon

@ Formation of Bio Plastic

@ Suspenseful Egg

@ Fire extinguisher

@ De calcification experiment etc.

After completing the experiments some of the students asked few questions.

School authority as well as science teachers showed lot of interest for the workshop. All of them remained busy for making the arrangement as well as getting the required materials for the workshop. Hearty thanks to all of them.

After completing everything we boarded the bus for Guwahati at 3pm and reached Guwahati at 6pm

Thus it was a meaningful day for me and science curiosity day for the students.
