Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya Golaghat

Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya Golaghat, which stands in the heart of Golaghat, is a premier institution of the town. Donor of the school land : Padmashree Dr. Robin Banerjee, the renowned humanitarian philanthropist of Golaghat and winner of 14 National and International awards, donated the land of the Vidyalaya. His house, adjacent to the school building, popularly known as Uncle Robin’s Natural History Museum, is an important tourist spot of the state. There are as many as 587 dolls collected from across the world and 262 other showpieces gifted to him by different countries present in this museum. There are also as many as 200 of his paintings adorning the museum walls. 19 award-winning photographs that he clicked in different parts of the world, have enriched the museum to a great extent. He made as many as 32 documentaries which are worth to watch.

Unique Features and Best Practices

• As part of “Amrit Surabhi” project the Vidyalaya offered about 5 quintals of rice to V.K. Khatkhati in presence of around 1200 people on 12th January 2009. As a follow-up, a guardian offered 1 quintal rice for the said project in February 2009. The students have achieved the target of collecting rice and sending it to V.K. Khotkhoti under the project almost regularly.

• A 10-day tailoring, cutting, knitting & food processing training programme was conducted at Suagpur, Suklai in 2009. The programme was conducted by Mrs. Mitra Brahmachary (wife of the Principal of the Vidyalaya), Mrs. Minu Saikia(a local resident) & Mrs. Anima Chaliha (mother of a teacher of the Vidyalaya).12 girls participated in this training programme and learnt a number of items.

• The following students have been selected for various professional disciplines. N.D.A.: Kr. Chinmoy Jyoti Bora; MEDICAL: Kr. Yasin S. Emanee, Kum. Sushma Baishya, Kum. Shreyshee Borah and Kum. Shivani Rajguru; NIT: Kr. Ritabrata Thakur, Kum. Ishita Das and Kr. Amitakhya Bhuyan; ENGINEERING: Kr. Abhinandan Borah.

• A group of students started their project of manufacturing Chalk. Now the students have become the permanent Chalk suppliers supplying their produce to various VKVs through VKSPV.

• A group of girls of the school started their project titled “DIVERSITY OF LOCAL EARTHWORMS AND THEIR EFFECTIVENESS FOR VERMI COMPOSTING”. The considerable amount of manure produced through this project is being used in the garden.

• Another group of 6 students (4 boys & 2 girls) have undergone entrepreneurship training. In the first phase of their project, they have opened ‘Sale counters’ in the school campus & started selling Khatkhoti Kendra products as well as other V.K. materials so as to develop some practical knowledge of sale & purchase, book keeping, accounting etc.

• The Vidyalaya staff celebrate various occasions not only at the school site, but also at various others institutions of Golaghat. They take active part in Uthisthata Jagrata Exam, Vijay hi Vijay, Srimanta Sankardev Progya Protiyogita etc. They also conduct Swadhaya once a month. Yoga classes, 3 Sanskar Vargas and Bhajan Sandhya are other such regular activities of the Vidyalaya staff.

• The Vidyalaya financially assists VKV, Kajalgaon and Uncle Robin’s Museum also.

• As per a ‘one to one special care project’ initiated by the Principal and assisted by the teachers, the slow learners in each class are made to sit by the side of the fast learners in their respective classes. Through this the fast learners look after the slow ones by explaining to them whenever necessary. As a result the bright students became more confident while mutual understanding and follow-feeling also developed.

• Students found speaking in any language other than English in the Vidyalaya campus, is asked to deliver a speech on the topic “Importance of Spoken English” during morning assembly. Teachers keep a watch on the students. As a result, the habit of speaking English in the Vidyalaya campus has improved.

• Weekly Tests in each subject are conducted covering the portion done during a particular week. This has been introduced for smooth and effective continuous evaluation and to enable the slow and average learners to perform better & develop confidence.

• A special programme is conducted every year on 12th January for instilling patriotic zeal & love for the country and the countrymen.

Remarkable Achievements

• In the National Children Science Congress (State Level) Kr. Rohan Borah of the Vidyalaya bagged the First position for his project on “Ou Lota – an alternate source of potable water” in 2006. Participating in the NATIONAL LEVEL COMPETITION OF THE STOCKHOLM JUNIOR WATER PRIZE Rohan was selected to represent India in SJWP held at STOCKHOLM,SWEEDEN. Accordingly he attended the  WORLD WATER WEEK held at STOCKHOLM from 20th to 26th August 2006 and brought glories to the whole Nation.

• Syeda Sarah Hamdan participated in 14th National Children’s Science Congress-2006 held at Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology, Majitar, Sikkim from 27th to 30th December 2006 and presented a project titled “Diversity of Local Earth worms and their effectiveness”. Her project was highly appreciated.

• Syed Yasin S. Emanee took part in Yahoo ! India Initiative conducted by Derok O’Brien and Associates. Selected among the top ten, he got an opportunity to meet former Indian President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam & got an opportunity to make a trip to the Silicon Valley.

• Kr. Rishabh Bora, got selected in an I.I.T. and brought laurels to the Vidyalaya in 2005.

• In AISSE-2007-08, Kr. Ritabrata Thakur scored 96% in aggregate and a centum in Maths. Syed Yasin Shahtaz Emanee got a centum in Science.

• In the State level Students Science Fair at Regional Science Centre, Guwahati Kr. Yasin S. Emanee of class XI stood 1st in Mathematical modelling & was selected to attend the Eastern India Science Fair-2009 at Birla Industrial & Technological Museum, Kolkata from 6th to 15th January 2009.

• A group of Senior Secondary students were selected to represent the Vidyalaya in an interactive seminar with the NASA Astronaut Mr. Micke Finckey on 7th September 2009 at the Pragjyoti Auditorium of Indian Tea Association, Guwahati. Pleased to interact with the students, the astronaut promised to pay a visit to the Vidyalaya.

• Kr. Kaushik Ranjan Boruah of Class-IX participated in the National Level CBSE Science Project Competition and secured 1st position in his group. His theme was “BIOLOGY IN HUMAN WELFARE”. The title of his project was “Demonstration on a reeling machine used to reel out and pierced cocoons (waste cocoons)”. He received a certificate & a cash prize of Rs.3,000/- from Shri Kapil Sibbal, HRD minister. For the same project he was awarded by the former President of India DR. APJ Abdul Kallam on 8th November 2010 in IIM, Ahmedabad. He has been recently felicitated by the Golaghat District Administration as “Child Scientist” during the 62nd Republic Day Celebration.

Special Mention

• A special competition was held among the students of various colleges on the deliberations of Swami Vivekananda (from Rousing Call to the Hindu Nation) on Universal Brotherhood Day in 2010 . To further the national cause of Vivekananda Kendra the Vidyalaya is in constant touch with the 11 students who participated in the competition .

Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya Dhemaji

V.K.V. Dhemaji is a premier institute of the locality. The Vidyalaya imparts education with culture and nature. The Vidyalaya administration strongly believes that the total development of a child is possible only if he/she can apply his/her education to enrich the culture and is sensible to nature.

Unique Features and Best Practices

• The Vidyalaya has a meditation period once a week. Students are given opportunity to speak in the school assembly. They are also guided by the teachers.

• There are conversation classes in Primary Section to improve Spoken English.

• The school is soon going to do away with ‘Burden of school bag’ for K. G. class. It will relieve the child as he/she will be able to come to school only with his/her tiffin and learn through games in the class.

Remarkable Achievements:

• The school turned out its first batch of Class X in 2009-10 with pass percentage 100.

• The Vidyalaya bagged the Best Costume Award in the Inter-VKV Srimanta Sankardev Natya Samaroh, 2007 organised by VKSPV in 2007.

• Kum. Madhusmita Paul, a student of Class-VIII, won the first prize in an individual dance competition at district, state and national levels.

• Su Satabdi Baruah of class Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya (NEC) Baragolai received the 1st prize in a district level Borgeet Competition held at Ghilamara of Lakhimpur district in 2007.

• Su.Anwesha Deori of class IV won a prize in an All Assam Colouring Competition organized by ‘MOUSAK’, a popular children’s monthly of Assam.

• The Vidyalaya team comprising of Sri Pratyosh Gogoi of class VIII, Sri Ashok Kr. Gogoi of VII and Sri Trideep Chetia of Class VII secured the third place in a Quiz Competition organized by Nagakhelia Juva Mancha and Dhemaji Zila Lekhika Samaroh in 2007. Sri Pratyosh Gogoi of class VIII bagged the third prize in an Extempore Speech Competition there.

• Km. Bishakha Gogoi of class II qualified in a Talent Search Examination organized by ‘Rangmela’ & ‘Shishubani’, two popular children’s magazine and newspaper respectively, published from Jorhat, Assam.

Vivekananda Kendra Shiksha Prasar Vibhag (VKSPV): An Educational Project of Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari

Swamiji's Historic Meditation: It was only boundless love for his motherland that made Swami Vivekananda, the great patriot monk, undertake wanderings all over India. 3 days' meditation-- on 25th, 26th and 27th December 1892 -- on the mid-sea rock on Kanyakumari on India’s past, present and future and he discovered the mission for glorious Bharatvarsha. The world was yet to see him shake the world by India’s spirituality.

Vivekananda Rock Memorial: This sanctified Kanyakumari also saw late Mananeeya Eknathji Ranade mobilise millions of Indians in constructing of the Vivekananda Rock Memorial that symbolises the glorious Indian mission visualized by Swami Vivekananda in his meditation.

Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari: As Vivekananda Rock Memorial started taking shape, Shri Eknath Ranade envisaged Vivekananda Kendra as a spiritually oriented service mission, which would reflect Swami Vivekananda’s vision of glorious India in action. Its key objective is “Man Making and Nation Building” by awakening and intensifying spiritual and nationalist urge among the youth and channelling it for national reconstruction.

VKK's Nation Building Activities: The Kendra has 225 branch centres spread over 22 Indian states to work for all strata of the society to rebuild the nation. To achieve this, life workers, whole-time workers and the local workers of the Kendra carry out various service activities through Yoga, rural development projects, educational projects, projects to develop  natural resources, youth and women awareness programmes and publications based on the life and message of Swami Vivekananda.

VKK's Educational Project VKSPV: Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari embarked on its umbrella project Vivekananda Kendra Shiksha Prasar Vibhag (VKSPV) in 2004 in order to effectively administer all the VKVs of Assam and Nagaland that had been running since the inception of the earliest VKV in 1978 at Tinsukia.

Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya Silchar

Donors of the school land: Smt. Smriti Lata Roy (wife of Late Adhir Chandra Roy), Sri Bimelendu Roy and Sri Dhyanendu Roy (sons of Late Adhir Chandra Roy) donated the school land. Both Bimelendu Roy and Dhyanendu Roy are well-known businessmen of Silchar.

• The Vidyalaya conducts morning assembly in four languages viz. English, Hindi, Sanskrit and Bengali alternately on four days of the week.

• Apart from the teachers, the students also are allowed to anchor and conduct various programmes.

• Involvement of the students and parents in various programmes of the Vidyalaya.

• Special guests having expertise in different fields are invited to the Vidyalaya to guide the children.

• It is compulsory for students and teachers to speak in English inside the campus.

• Yoga classes are conducted regularly.

• Students are taught through audio-visual aids also.

• The Vidyalaya conducts soft subject classes viz. Martial Arts, Fine Arts, Music etc. on two days in a week for all-round development of the child.

• The Vidyalaya creates environmental sensitivity among the students and the parents.

• The Vidyalaya conducts remedial classes for the slow learners.

• Model classes are conducted every second Saturday for the teachers to enrich the teaching-learning process.

• Knowledge of phonetics is given during Spoken English classes.

• The Vidyalya maintains Indian cultural values in its day-to-day activities. Children as well as their guardians are involved through various celebrations to spread the message of Swami Vivekananda.

• The Vidyalaya has already got the middle class approval from C.B.S.E Delhi.

Remarkable Achievements

• Su. Lipika Roy, one of the senior teachers of the Vidyalaya, has received B.R.Ambedkar National Fellowship Award for having spread the message of Sankardev in Barak Valley.

Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya Badarpur

VKV Badarpur, the 42nd VKV in the Northeast India, is located near a historic fort on the bank of the river Barak in Karimganj district of Assam. The Vidyalaya started its journey on 23rd March 2009 with the sponsorship and support of Barak Valley Cement Ltd. BVCL approached Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari for setting up a school in the proximity of their Industry at Badarpur Ghat. Two years later the company purchased a plot of land in the name of VK Kanyakumari and also promised to provide permanent infrastructure necessary for running a school up to Class X. Although the Vidyalaya has completed only two years, during the brief period it has tried to spread the message of Swami Vivekananda and Vivekananda Kendra among the people of the locality through different programmes.

Unique Features and Best Practices

• The Vidyalaya conducts competitions and Personality Development Camps for nearby schools.

• It also organises rallies on various important occasions. The Vidyalaya organizes various programmes on occasions like birth anniversary of Thakur Ramakrishna Paramahansha, death centenary of Sister Nivedita, birth anniversary of Kaviguru Ravindranath Tagore etc.

• The Vidyalaya conducts soft subject classes for the students of other schools every Sunday with four disciplines viz. Tabla, Art, Dance & Vocal. Till date 60 students have enrolled themselves for these classes.

• The Vidyalaya holds Parent-Teacher Meetings on a regular basis. During the last two years it has held around 8 meetings with parents and in each meeting parents have expressed their satisfaction over the functioning and activities of the school and its system.

• The Vidyalaya has a competitive fee structure.

• The infrastructure of the school though temporary at present is sufficient for around 200 students.
