On 19th May 2025, the students of Class VIII from Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, Dhemaji, visited Kochaitang, Hatigarh village as part of a subject enrichment activity.
To enrich classroom learning with practical exposure, VKV Dhemaji organized a subject enrichment activity for the students of Class VIII. The students visited Kochaitang, Hatigarh village to witness the process of sericulture—the rearing of silkworms for silk production.
During the visit, the students were guided through each step of the sericulture process by local practitioners. They showed great interest and enthusiasm in learning how silk is produced, right from the beginning stages.
The students are now able to understand and explain the following key stages of sericulture:
- Selection of Silkworm Eggs
- Hatching
- Feeding the Larvae
- Molting
- Spinning the Cocoon
- Harvesting Cocoons
- Silk Reeling
This real-world experience helped students gain insight into one of India’s important cottage industries and supported their understanding of biological and economic aspects related to silk production.
