Investigatory Project in Social Science

In an attempt to understand village life, an Investigatory Project in Social Science was undertaken by Vivekananda Kendra Shiksha Prasar Vibhag for the students of Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalayas in Assam & Nagaland. The students in each school visited and explored different aspects of two nearby villages under the project.

We extend our heartfelt invitation to you all to see, understand and assess the facts and findings of the projects undertaken by students of different Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalayas on 8, 9 December, 2012 at Natya Mandir, Nalbari. Mananeeya Eknathii's Jayanti (Sadhana Diwas)

Each VKV celebrated Sadhana Diwas (Mananeeya Eknathji's Jayanti) with speeches by students and teachers on Eknathji Ranade, patriotic songs and bhajans. VKV Tinsukia and VKV (NEC) Baragolai conducted a cleanliness drive in and around the school campus as part of a Shramdan programme. On this occasion the students and the teachers of VKV Tinsukia performed Akhanda Ramcharit Manash Paath at the Vidyal aya for 24 hours from 18 & 19 November 2012

Acharya Prashikshan Shibir

Vivekananda Kendra Shiksha Prasar Vibhag organised an Acharya Prashikshan Shibir (Teachers’ Orientation Camp) at VKV Tinsukia for new teachers working in      Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalayas of Upper Assam. The Shibir started on 16 November 2012. In the inaugural session, Sri Kamalakant Baliarsingha RAO, VKSPV, Guwahati stated the objectives of the Shibir and Mananiya Lalita Didi, Joint Secretary, VKSPV, Guwahati blessed and guided the participants. Thirty-four new teachers participated in the Shibir. A team of experienced teachers from different VKVs of Upper Assam rendered their service as Resource Persons and members of organising team. Different sessions were conducted in Shibir on various areas like meaning & significance of Kendra Prayer, Teaching techniques, Tools & Techniques of Evaluation, Activity oriented teaching-learning, Sardha Shati Samaroh.


The Shibir concluded on 18 November 2012. Su. Pranati Roy, Principal, VKV Tinsukia inspired & guided the participants in the concluding session.

Alumni Reunion of VKVs of Assam & Nagaland

The seed planted some 35 years back has today grown into a colossal tree sheltering and nurturing thousands of young minds. Since the very inception Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalayas in Assam and Nagaland have been striving tirelessly to impart value education to the budding minds of this region of our Nation. Scaling the mountains of adversities our Vidyalayas continued the pursuit of seeking excellence in the field of education. Over the years we have achieved many milestones. Our students today are well settled in their life and earning laurels for themselves as well as their alma mater. Their contribution to the society is now acknowledged from all quarter. Science and Mathematics Workshop VKV Silchar

4th-7th August 2012; VKV Ramnagar (Silchar)

A team of 10 students from VKVs of Dibrugarh, Tingrai, Tinsukia & Umrangso along with two teachers, Sri Biju Rai Singhania of VKV Umrangso and Sri Sonu Gupta of VKV Tinsukia conducted a workshop on Science & Mathematics (three dimensional models) at VKV Ramnagar, Silchar under the guidance of Sushri Lalita M.S, Joint Secretary, VKSPV. 86 students of classes VII, VIII, IX & X of VKV Ramnagar (Silchar) and Vivekananda Vidyalaya Irongmara (Silchar) participated in the workshop. Sri Kabindra Purkayastha, Honourable MP visited the workshop on 5th August apart from a large number of parents, well wishers and teachers from the neighbouring educational institutions.

Yoga Shiksha Shibir VKV Tingrai

15th-25th July 2012; VKV Tingrai

VK Assam Prant Organised a North East level Yoga Shiksha shibir and yoga pratiman shibir at VKV Tingrai. Late Satishji was the resource person in the shibir, which sessions were also conducted by Mananiya Nivedita Didi,Bhanudasji and Pravinji (Senior Karyakarthas of VKV). There were 50 participants in the shibirs.

Excursion to Gujarat July 2012

Like yesteryear, this year also VKSPV organised an educational tour for a group of selected school students. A team of 34 students and 12 teachers & officials led by Sushri Lalita M.S.Joint Secretary,VKSPV left Guwahati for Gujarat on 2nd July 2012. During the tour they visited many places of social, historical and technological importance at Ahmadabad, Somnath, Porbandar, Dwaraka and Dharampur. A few such were: Hridayakuni, the House of Madeleine Slade, Satyagraha Ashram, Akshardham, Energy Park, Spinning & Weaving School, Khadi Cottage Industry at Gujarat Vidyapeeth, vikram Sarabhai Community Space Centre, Golokdham Lakshmi Mandir, Somnath Temple, Jyotirlinga Temple, Hanuman Mandir of Jamnagar, Kirti Mandir, Nageshwar Temple, Bhalka Tirth Mandir, Gopi Talab and Dwarkadheesh Temple. From 9th July the team attended a four-day workshop at ARCH (Area Rescue Consortium of Hospitals) at Dharampur. During this period the team visited the District Science Centre and a school at Kharki where the members of the team had a few interactive sessions with the students & teachers of the school.

Toy Making Workshop VKV NEC Baragolai

25th May 2012; shankardev vidyapeeth, Ledo

VKV (NEC) Baragolai conducted a children's toy making workshop with a team of its 49 students as instructors for 500 students of Shankardev Vidyapeeth, Ledo. Sri Manish Kr. Dey and Sri Tarini Kanta Sarma of the Vidyalaya co-ordinated the workshop where over 250 models were made and displayed.

Science Workshop may 2012

VKSPV Organised science workshop cum-exhibitions at VKV (NEEPCO) Umrangso, VKV Majuli and VKV Tingrai with Sri R.N. Dixit, the State Coordinator (Maharashtra) of National Children's Science Congress as the key resource person. He was assisted by Smt. Manjusha Dixit, a teacher of Kanya Vidyalaya, Pune. The participating student were involved in learning various experiments in the first phase. In the concluding part of the workshop they had to demonstrate the experiments to the students, parents and teachers. Thirty trained students (classes Ix and x) of VKV (NEEPCO) Umrangso held exhibitions in two nearby schools viz. Garampani Govt. High School and Kapili High School. VKV Tingrai invited the students and the teachers of the nearby schools to view the experiments. Sixty trained students (Classes VIII & IX) of VKV Majuli held exhibitions at Majuli Auni Ati Hemchandra Higher Secondary School and Auni Ati High School.

Inauguration of Approach Road

The approach road of VKV, Suklai was inaugurated on 25th April, 2012 by Sri Ganesh Kachari, EM, BTAD.


Workshop for Teachers/Parents

Her Holiness Swamini Pramananda, fondly known as ‘Ammaji’, a highly regarded teacher of Vedanta and a spiritual guide, visited VKV Tinsukia during first week of May 2012 and conducted workshop/spiritual retreat for teachers and parents.

New School Building of Vkv Sivasagar

The newly constituted school building of VKV, Sivasagar was inaugurated on 6th May, 2012 Sri Debobrata Saikia, MLA, Nazira Constituency and Pravin Dabholkar, Joint General Secretary, VK Kanyakumari were respectively the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour in this inauguration ceremony which was attended by around 400 people.

Health Camp

A health camp for students was organized by VKV, Suklai in association with Jogen Basumatary Vivekananda Kendra Hospital, Suklai on 8th May, 2012.

Language Teachers Workshop

A workshop was conducted for Language Teachers in VKV, Majuli on 19th & 20th May, 2012 with Sri Dulal Chandra Nath, former Headmaster of VKV Suklai as Resource Person.

Toy Making Workshop

A team of 49 students of VKV (NEC) Baragolai conducted a children’s toy making workshop on 25th May, 2012 under the guidance of their teachers Sri Manish Kr. Dey & Sri Tarini Kanta Sarma at Shankardev Vidyapeeth, Ledo. 500 students of Shankardev Vidyapeeth participated in the workshop in which more than 250 models were displayed.

Geometrical Model Making Workshop

VKV, Sivasagar organized a day long workshop on Geometrical Model Making at Sivasagar Govt. H. S. & M. P. School, Sivasagar on 16th June, 2012. Twenty-one students from different schools of Sivasagar took part in this workshop which was conducted by a team of 8 students from VKV Dibrugarh guided by their teacher Su. Junali Borpatra Gohain.

Science & Mathematics Workshop

A workshop on Science & Mathematics (three dimensional models) was conducted in VKV Ramnagar, Silchar from 4th August to 7th August, 2012 under guidance of Su. Lalita M. S., Joint Secretary, VKSPV. A team of 10 students from VKVs Dibrugarh, Tingrai, Tinsukia & Umrangso along with two teachers, Sri Biju Rai Singhania of VKV Umrangso and Sri Sonu Gupta of VKV Tinsukia conducted the workshop in which 86 students of classes VII, VIII, IX & X of VKV Ramnagar (Silchar) and Vivekananda Vidyalaya, Irongmara (Silchar) participated. Sri Kabindra Purkayastha, Honourable M. P., visited the workshop on 5th August. Also a large number of parents, well wishers and teachers from various educational institutions visited the workshop & appreciated the effort.

Foundation Stone Laid For New School Building at Ramnagar (Silchar)

The foundation stone for a new school building for VKV Ramnagar (Silchar) was laid on 5th August, 2012 by the Honourable Member of Parliament Sri Kabindra Purkayastha who had granted Rs. 10 lacs from his MP’s Fund for construction of the said building. The programme was also attended by Dr. S. K. Nandi Purkayastha, Vice-chairman of Vidyalaya Managing Committee, Sri Kanad Purkayastha, MP’s Nominee and Su. M. S. Lalita, Joint Secretary, Vivekananda Kendra Shiksha Prasar Vibhag. A large number of students and parents were present in the programme. The Honourable MP Sri Kabindra Purkayastha also handed over the first installment of Rs. 3 lacs from the MP’s Fund to the school Management on this occasion.

Workshop on Handwriting

A workshop to develop good handwriting was conducted in VKV Sivasagar on 11th August, 2012 for the students of the Vidyalaya. Sri Robin Pathak, Chief Manager, State Bank of India, Sivasagar Branch was the resource person in the workshop. The teachers of the Vidyalaya also attended the workshop.

Band Group’s Performance

The Band Group of VKV Nalbari displayed an attractive performance in the Independence Day Celebration organized at the SP Office Playground on 15th August, 2012. The performance was praised by all present in the programme.

Workshop In N. E. Academy, Sadia

A workshop on three dimensional Geometry models was organised in North Eastern Academy, Sadia (under guidance of Vivekananda Kendra, Kanyakumari) on 25th & 26th August, 2012 for the students of classes VII to X. Nearly 100 students of seven schools of Sadia participated in this workshop which was conducted by a team of 8 students of VKV, Tinsukia under the guidance of Su. Lalita M. S., Joint Secretary, VKSPV. A large number of parents and well wishers visited the workshop and praised the effort.

Vkvians’ Achievements


Sri Prasoon Kumar Parihar and Sri Anis Adak of Class X of VKV (NEC) Baragolai won the 2nd prize in a debate competition on the Topic “Big dams are beneficial for us” organized by Coal Mines  Officers Association of India at Ledo on 20th April, 2012.


Students of VKV (NEEPCO) Umrangso exhibited two models on, ‘Optimum Use of Solar Energy’ and ‘Altimeter’ at CBSE Regional Level Science Exhibition held on 10th & 11th August, 2012 at GEMS NPS International School, Guwahati.


VKSPV Initiatives


Science Workshop


VKSPV organized science workshop-cum-exhibition at VKV (NEEPCO) Umrangso from 8th to 10th May, 2012. Thirty students of classes IX and X were trained in various experiments in Science by the invited Resource Person Sri R. N. Dixit, the State Coordinator (Maharastra) of National Children’s Science Congress. Sri Dixit was assisted by Smt. Manjusha Dixit, a teacher in Karya Vidyalaya, Pune. The trained students exhibited the experiments for other students of the school, teachers and parents on the last day. They also conducted exhibitions on these experiments in two nearby schools.


Similar workshop-cum-exhibition was organized in VKV Majuli on 14th  & 15th  May and VKV Tingrai from 17th to 19th May with Sri R. N. Dixit as the resource person.


EXCURSION TO GUJARAT

Like previous years, this year VKSPV organized an educational tour for a group of school students and escort teachers. A team of 34 students and 12 teachers & officials led by Su. Lalita M. S., Joint Secretary, VKSPV started from Guwahati on 2nd July, 2012 towards Gujarat.

The team reached Ahmadabad on 4th July, stayed there a couple of days in the Ashram of Gujarat Vidyapeeth and visited many places of social/historical importance.

Some of those places are:

•    Gandhiji’s House, Hridayakunj


•    The House of Madeleine Slade – known as Meera of Gandhiji


•    Satyagraha Ashram – presently known as Sabarmati Ashram


•    Temple of Swami Narayan  - Akshardham


•    Energy Park , Museum, Spinning & Weaving School, Khadi Cottage Industry in Gujarat Vidyapeeth


•    Vikram Sarabhai Community Space Centre

On 7th July, the touring team reached Somnath , visited the famous temples there and then left for Porbandar. The important places visited in Somnath and Porbandar are:

•    Hanuman Mandir of Jamnagar (established by Santoshi Ma, a German Lady)

On 9th July the touring team reached Dharampur to attend a four-day workshop at ARCH (Area Rescue Consortium of Hospitals). During the days of workshop, the team also visited the District Science Centre, Dharampur and a school at Kharki where the visiting team got a grand welcome. The members of the visiting team had different interactive sessions with the students & teachers of the school at Kharki.

The team started its return journey on 13th July, 2012 and reached Guwahati on 15th July, 2012.

Workshop for Teachers and Parents May 2012

Vivekananda Vidyalaya Irongmara march 2012

Vivekananda Vidyalaya, Irongmara came into being by March 2O12 even as Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya (AUC) Silchar was handed over to Assam University. The phenomenal efforts of the local people of Irongmara, Borjalenga, Dwarbond and Silcoorie, who contributed whole-heartedly in cash and kind, made the school start functioning in a temporary building with Classes from Nursery to VIII forthwith. The Vidyalaya is situated near Assam University, Silchar.

Under the aegis of Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari, VKSPV has so far reached out to eight such Vidyalayas with its educational support programmes. Most of them have been termed as Vivekananda Vidyalayas (VV) while a couple of them have retained their original names. Some teachers and students of these schools participate in different training and common programmes of VKSPV at various locations.

Internal Monitoring and Mentoring 2012

Sharing for growth of Vidyalayas.

23rd & 24th February 2012 at VKV Tingrai

VKSPV initiated its first ever internal monitoring and mentoring programme with a view to sharing the human and infrastructural resources amongst the Vidyalayas under its fold to facilitate their harmonious growth. Two teams of senior teachers including Principals under the guidance of Su.M.S. Lalita, Joint Secretary VKSPV visited the two Vidyalayas and observed as well as assessed various areas of importance such as morning and afternoon assemblies, Scholastic and co-scholastic classes, students' notebooks and diaries, all types of attendance registers, teachers' lesson plan diaries etc. Subsequently, best of the Vidyalayas' practices were shared by the teachers while receiving valuable suggestions for the improvement of the Vidyalaya's Scholastic and co-scholastic activities.

Expansion and Support 2012

Community Led Schools
Vivekananda Kendra Prathamik Vidyalaya Jengrai
Classes- KG to II; Students: 47; Teachers: 3
Situated in upper block of Majuli sub-division (Jorhat), Vivekananda Kendra Prathamik Vidyalaya (VKPV) Jengrai came into existence on 20th January 2012 as part of a project named 'Jengraimukh Janajati Sanskritik Prakalpa', initiated by Shri Shri Pitambar Deva Goswami, sattradhikar of Auniati Sattra, Majuli two years back. The Prakalpa has 5 wings: a Primary Health Centre, a Museum, a Namghar, a Community Hall and a Vidyalaya. Being an interior Village, Jengrai had hitherto remained deprived of any educational facilities.
VKSPV encourages communities and individuals interested to start vidyalayas in line with VKVs to initiate the process in their localities, for which it provides required help and guidance. Consequently, the setup process of 4 new Vivekananda vidyalayas had been completed by March 2012.

Utsavas 2011-2012

The Utsavas viz. Guru Poornima (15th July 2011), Univercal Brotherhood Day (11th September 2011), Sadhana Diwas (19th November 2O11), Gita Jayanti (6th December 2011), Samartha Bharat Parva (25th December 2011 - 12th January 2012) and Vivekananda Jayanti (12th January 2012) were celebrated in the VKVs with great enthusiasm. Some programmes that deserve special mention are:

Guru Poornima: Speech on Guru-shishya Parampara and Guru bhajans in various Vidyalayas.

Universal Brotherhood Day: Songs, skits & speeches on Swamiji's life and message, presentation of famous Chicago Address by students in most VKVs, a Prabhat Ferry with a large number of local people including students and parents (VKV, Umrangso), an Inter-School Declamation Competition with 27 participants from 8 nearby schools (VKV, Baragolai) and a special programme to spread the message of Swami Vivekananda in Nalanda Public School (VKV Nalbari).

Sadhana Diwas: Skits and speeches on Eknathji's life and works by students and teachers of various Vidyalayas, Akhanda Ramcharit Manas Path and community lunch by VKV Tinsukia.

Gita Jayanti: Gita Chanting Competition (Gita Jnana Yajna) among the students in all the Vidyalayas, a skit presenting the message of Srimad Bhagavat Gita by some students of VKV (NEEPCO) Umrangso, a special speech on the significance of the Gita by Dr.K.K. Handique, a retired lecturer at VKV, Sivasagar.


Samarth Bharat Parva & Vivekananda Jayanti: Sport events for public & an Inter-School Mini-marathon with more than 400 student participants of Tinsukia town (VKV Tinsukia), a prize-money Mini-marathon with 114 participants (VKV Baragolai), a Mini-marathon & a Prabhat Ferry (VKV, Doyang), talks by eminent personalities from different fields VKV, Ramnagar, Silchar, Samuhik Surya Namaskar (VKV, Umrangso), a procession involving students of different colleges of Nalbari district (VKV, Nalbari), speeches delivered by parents and social workers in Morning Assembly on 'India's Achievements in Different Fields' & a grand rally of a thousand people on National Youth Day (VKV, Dibrugarh).

Teacher's Educational Tour 2012

Training and resources for Activity Based Learning

6th-12th January 2012; Tamilnadu, Travellers: 15

A 15-member team of teachers and parents led by Su.M.S. Lalita, Joint Secretary, VKSPV visited Kottur (Pollachi) at Tamilnadu to receive training in Activity Based Learning (ABL). Sri M.P. Vijaykumar, Retd. IAS & former Director of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Tamilnadu with a few resource persons guided the participants. ABL has been adopted in some parts of India as an innovative learner-centric methodology that enables a learner to develop at his or her own learning pace, ability, skills, interest and aptitude. 'Learning Ladders' and 'ABL Cards' are two unique means to this end.
